At the end of this month, LinkedIn, the professional social networking site, will be closing down its question and answer product – LinkedIn Answers.
The service is a forum where users can post original content by asking questions related to their business while responding to queries from others.
According to Social Media News, the deficient use of the service is partly due to a lack of display on the site.
Administrators emailed users of this change, apparently because it hasn't been utilised by members often enough to continue it.
The email read: "As of Jan 31, LinkedIn Answers will be retired from LinkedIn.
"We will be focusing our efforts on the development of new and more engaging ways to share and discuss professional topics across LinkedIn. In the meantime, members can still pose questions and facilitate professional discussions through other popular LinkedIn channels including LinkedIn polls, groups, or status update."
The feature has presented an opportunity for users to develop their credentials as knowledgeable business people. Some members have spent a great amount of time answering these questions with meaningful advice and tips.
Despite this, the company is still growing at a large rate, passing the 200 million user mark earlier this month.
The site serves more than 200 countries in 19 languages and is growing in membership at a rate of 172,800 per day.
According to the LA Times, November saw around 160 million users on LinkedIn, meaning 40 million new people signed up in the space of two months.
