There are currently over one million channels generating revenue on YouTube, with these videos providing entertainment and education for one billion people worldwide.
YouTube states in a blog post that they've been building a partner program since 2007, allowing content creators to earn revenue for their creativity.
The YouTube team announced yesterday (May 9) that they are now offering paid channels, with subscription fees starting from US $0.99 cents per month.
Each channel has a 14-day free trial, with many offering discounted yearly rates. Some of the users that have jumped on board are Jim Henson Family TV (Fraggle Rock and The Wubbulous World of Dr Seuss), UFC Select and National Geographic Kids.
"Once you subscribe from a computer, you’ll be able to watch paid channels on your computer, phone, tablet and TV, and soon you’ll be able to subscribe to them from more devices," the YouTube team states.
YouTube notes that they'll be rolling out more paid channels in the coming weeks, with YouTube creators interested in building their own paid channel able to register their interest.
