Alicia Keys launches Pinterest account and is appointed BlackBerry’s Global Creative Director

Multi-award winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys is no stranger to social media, with a highly active Twitter account that keeps her followers informed on her daily activities, and a Facebook page that doesn't issue the 'PR spam' that we're used to seeing on artists' pages.

In short, Keys is one example of a musician who uses social media to great effect – it's evident in her 24.4 million Facebook page likes and 11.1 million Twitter followers!

The R&B artist has also gone on to add a Pinterest page, sharing with thousands of followers her inspirations, charity work and most interestingly, individual boards dedicated to each song from her latest album, Girl On Fire.

Keys admitted to internet and news blogging website Mashable that she was a "bit of a social media junkie" and that she was excited to move into the world of Pinterest.

"I can't wait to … bring everyone into my creative space through pictures and vibes that express the ways in which my songs came to life," she told Mashable on January 24.

The Pinterest board for her song 'Girl on Fire' includes images of Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Gabby Douglas, Audrey Hepburn, Michelle Obama and Nicki Minaj.

The singer's engagement with technology was further recognised with Canadian telecommunications company BlackBerry yesterday (January 30) appointing Keys as their Global Creative Director.

This will see kees work with content creators, app developers, retailers and the entertainment community to help shape the BlackBerry 10 platform and "inspire creative use" through its capabilities and functionality.

"Alicia Keys has come to BlackBerry because she believes in the product and technology, and subscribes to our overriding philosophy to ‘Keep Moving’: to empower people through mobile computing and communications," said BlackBerry president and chief executive officer Thorsten Heins.

"We are excited she will be bringing to us her enormous capabilities, as well as a vast network of relationships in the entertainment, social media and business communities, to help shape our brand and grow our business."
