Broadcast live on Google+
Have you ever dreamed about starting your own television show? Or maybe you consider yourself to be a little bit of a Jamie Oliver in the kitchen? Google+ has just introduced a new feature that allows you to broadcast videos live on your profile.
Now your connections can see you doing everything in real time, from showing off your cooking skills to giving a speech – the choice is yours.
The feature, called Hangouts On Air, was introduced last year to a limited number of broadcasters but earlier today Google announced plans to roll out this option to all Google+ users.
"Today we're excited to launch Hangouts On Air to Google+ users worldwide. So if you have something to say – as an aspiring artist, a global celebrity, or a concerned citizen – you can now go live in front of a global audience," engineering director Chee Chew wrote in a blog post.
Linking with your YouTube account, the new feature is a fresh and creative way to share your original content with friends, family and other connections.
You can even link it with your website, making it a great option for filming podcasts, tutorials and generally engaging with your online community.
So how does this feature differ from YouTube? As you record your live show you can see in real-time how many viewers are watching. Then it can be shared with both your Google+ viewers and your YouTube account so people can watch it at a later date.
Ideally this could be a great new social media marketing strategy – by uploading something interesting and engaging, you can start a conversation and keep it going long after the live streaming has finished.
"When groups of passionate individuals can broadcast live, together, the results are truly remarkable," Mr Chew wrote.
What sort of video would you like to share with the world?
