Content marketing ‘used by 90% of businesses’

Content marketing may seem like it is one of the newer strategies in the digital world, but the truth is that it is more far-reaching than you might think.

As a new infographic shows, a considerable 90 per cent of businesses have a content marketing strategy – and they believe it is an important part of their operations.

Released by Demand Metric, A Guide to Marketing Genius: Content Marketing shows that more than 25 per cent of the average budget is spent in this area.

Not only this, content marketing is apparently here to stay, as 78 per cent of the chief marketing officers polled believe that custom content is the future.

This content strategy is more popular among business-to-business marketers (91 per cent) than it is operating on a business-to-consumer (86 per cent) basis, the infographic shows.

There is evidence to suggest that content marketing is the way forward, as 37 per cent of those questioned believe content-led websites are an important means of keeping customers engaged.

A number of methods can be used to achieve this, including offering custom news to website users, or perhaps even giving them company blogs to engage with.

After all, 70 per cent of those polled said they would rather learn about a company through an article than an advert.

As the infographic shows, 20 per cent of online time is spent looking at content, so it is up to companies to make sure they are providing something that will encourage them to return time and time again.

There are, of course, financial incentives for adopting a content marketing strategy – not only does the research show that it costs 62 per cent less than traditional methods, but the leads generated are also greater.

For every dollar spent, Demand Metric found that content marketing is able to create around three times as many leads as traditional marketing.
