Facebook Gifts shapes up for holiday season
Don't panic if you've just realised it's a month until Christmas and you haven't started shopping yet – Facebook can help you in making your gift purchases!
Many of us may be stuck in the office over December, tidying up loose ends at work in preparation for the festive season, leaving no time to brave the crowds in malls to pick up Christmas gifts.
Online shopping has been climbing in popularity in recent years, with the holiday period a notable time of year for people to jump on the net and get their gifts organised.
Social media platform Facebook has also jumped on board the online gift-purchasing movement, allowing people to send gifts to their friends and family.
In a Facebook blog post on November 15, the company announced that they will have hundreds of gifts from new retail partners – just in time for the Christmas shopping rush.
Companies such as babyGap, Fab, L'Occitane, Lindt, ProFlowers, Brookstone, Dean & Deluca and NARS Cosmetics have made their products and services available for purchase through Facebook.
You can even gift music and TV shows to your Facebook friends with subscriptions to Pandora, Hulu Plus and more.
If you have a friend or family member who is all about giving to others rather than receiving, you can use the new feature on Facebook Gifts that allows users to make a charitable contribution on behalf of another.
The Facebook charitable contribution feature was announced on the Facebook Blog by Jared Morgenstern on November 1, who noted that they were "especially pleased" to be launching it now as people look for ways to help Hurricane Sandy victims and assist those in need around the holidays.
You can choose which nonprofit you would like to support or let your friend make the choice.
Facebook has partnered up with 11 nonprofit organisations that include the American Red Cross, LIVESTRONG, Oxfam America and Water.org.
So you can scout around online to find the perfect gift for your loved ones this Christmas by shopping online with Facebook Gifts.
