Facebook holds steady as Australia’s most visited site

A total of 9.8 million unique Australian visitors visited Facebook in February, seeing the site maintain a steady number one when it comes to the country's most popular social media website.

New figures from show that YouTube ranked in the number two position with 6.1 million unique Australian visits, although this figure slipped by 700,000 compared with January's numbers.

Meanwhile, visits to Blogspot blogs were up 200,000, while the number of monthly visitors to microblogging site Twitter also increased (by 100,000) to a total of 1.1 million.

We've long known that Australia loves social media – Google's Zeitgeist report for 2010 showed that the newest generation of social media sites, including Chatroulette, Tumblr and, have all taken off Down Under in the past year.

Organisations can use social media sites including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter – as well as newer platforms – as a brilliant opportunity to connect with their target market.
