Facebook teams unveil Valentine’s Day playlist

A Facebook music initiative is helping users around the world put the social back into relationships, with its very own love song dedication mash-up.

The social network has revealed two top ten lists of the most popular songs for people forming new relationships and in some cases ending them.

Jonathan Chang, a member of the Facebook analytics team, was responsible for compiling the social music chart.

Mr Chang started by taking a closer look at Spotify data and then ranking tracks based on the correlations between status updates on relationships alongside people's favourite songs.

It was later discovered that songs such as Jason Derulo's "Don't Wanna Go Home" and Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" were popular among people just starting a relationship or ready to make the switch from single to taken on their Facebook profile.

Those who were mid-breakup or on the verge of coming out of a romantic dalliance were more likely to listen to the melancholic tunes of Adele, with a preference for "Rolling in the Deep" or Drake's "Crew Love".

And while some people may question the validity of the results, it seems that they are as accurate as your relationship status – which means that all updates need to be taken with a grain of salt.

But it is still highly likely that people will be sharing songs on Facebook that match their mood, which could easily be influenced by the state of their personal affairs.

However, the Valentine's Day initiative is still a great way to get people talking about the role social media plays in people's relationships, especially at a time when the lines between on- and off-line world's are becoming increasingly entwined.

With this in mind, it might be time for the true romantics to show that special someone how much they care by posting a love dedication on their wall.
