Google Analytics Real-Time announced

Google has provided website owners with new research tools intended to change the way they do business.

Launched in 2005, the search engine's analytics software has reported traffic flow and user trends for individuals and large-scale enterprises on a regular basis.

However, now those same people and organisations will be able to see the statistical breakdown instantaneously.

Writing on the Official Google Blog, John Jersin from the Google Analytics team described the new real-time feature as "a set of new reports that show what’s happening on your site as it happens".

In practice, this means that Google Analytics Real-Time can be used to measure the amount of traffic directed to your site or allow you to test landing pages before officially launching a new product to make sure that people are being directed to the right site.

Jersin used the example of a recent Google Twitter campaign in order to demonstrate the value of the new software to your business.

"We could see how much traffic each channel is driving to the blog as it happened. We could also see when we stopped receiving visits from the tweet, which helps know when to re-engage," he said.

Importantly, all of this information is passed on to the web site administrator as it happens and as a point of difference from many of its competitors, Google is providing this information for free.

Registered site administrators who have downloaded the new version of the software will be take up the new feature within the coming weeks.

For companies looking to further maximise their analytical power, Google Analytics Premium – an updated version of its original analytics program which was launched in 2005 – was also unveiled this week (September 29).

Google Analytics Premium has many of the same features as its predecessor, such as measuring website traffic and data, but offers a more advanced version of these services.

The premium service includes increased processing power and data collection models that provide a higher level of analysis, 24-hour tech support and product guarantees.

The premium service is being tailored to multi-national companies that require more sophisticated tools to measure the impact of their marketing campaigns and whether those commercial strategies are translating into financial profits in the online space.
