Instagram branches out into video
Competition in the social media world is undoubtedly fierce and with Vine making headway at the moment, rivals have been left wondering how they can keep up with the pace.
As a result, Facebook-owned Instagram now has a brand new video feature of its own, much to the excitement of the technological world.
Instagram began life two-and-a-half years ago, during which time it has gained 130 million monthly active users across the world.
This is a huge subscriber base, so keeping people happy and offering them new features to play with is high up on the agenda.
Video sharing has become big business over recent years, which is why Instagram has jumped on the bandwagon by offering its users this new experience.
In a blog post announcing the changes, co-founder of Instagram Kevin Systrom explained that "some moments need more than a static image to come to life", which is why video seemed the next logical step for the site.
So how can you make use of this new feature? Mr Systrom reveals: "When you go to take a photo on Instagram, you'll now see a movie camera icon. Tap it to enter video mode, where you can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera."
One of the things that Instagram has become known for is its filters, which can change the look and feel of images uploaded to the site.
As a result, 13 filters will be specifically available for video, allowing people to personalise their uploads further – there is even a scene selector, which allows one image to be chosen as a cover picture for the video.
This latest addition to the Instagram portfolio gives yet more scope for expanding social media marketing campaigns – with hype already growing, this is the perfect chance to experiment and see what it has to offer.
