Lady Gaga passes 20m Twitter followers
Grammy winner Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga is one of the highest selling female recoding artists in history.
But it is her Little Monster's and not the singer, who are busy working over-time to make sure she keeps breaking records.
Instead of another musical gong the entertainer and Born This Way Foundation co-founder has taken home a social media award of sorts.
Gaga now has the highest number of followers on Twitter, with more than 20 million users subscribing to her updates on life, love, music and all things popular culture.
But she wasn't always the most popular A-lister on the micro-blogging site – Gaga pipped Britney Spears on the leader's board in 2010 and in the process broke the previous record of 5.6 million followers.
For comparison's sake, it might help readers to understand just how big a deal this is when they learn that Justin Beiber has 18 million followers, Katy Perry is sitting on 15.7 million and the president of the United States, Barack Obama, has 12.8 million.
But success on one site does not necessarily mean that people are following you on different platforms and on Google+ Spears still has a strong lead over Gaga.
This could mean that there are different demographics using the media platforms, but we will wait for a more detailed analysis on that front before making any social comments.
Having said this, Gaga's success on Facebook is hard to beat, with the official Lady Gaga page attracting in excess of 48.9 million likes.
However, despite her prolific updates the singer has yet to acknowledge her feat on Twitter.
Instead her last update on March 4 was about fellow musician Bruce Springsteen's appearance on US television earlier in the week.
But we are sure that there are a number of monsters out there waiting to tweet, retweet and share comments about the news.
