Lady Gaga to launch new social media site

While social media users are inundated with new platforms to share content on, such as Pinterest and Google+, a new site is set to launch shortly – and it's owned by Lady Gaga. will reportedly allow fans of the music superstar to interact with each other as well as Lady Gaga herself.

Currently in a testing stage, users can "request an invite to be among the first to experience a new community only for Little Monsters. Because you were born this way!"

The Little Monsters site has been established by social media start-up company Backplane, in which Gaga is an investor.

The news of Gaga's site comes as she continues to dominate established social media platforms, with the pop sensation recently becoming the first celebrity to reach 18 million followers on Twitter – almost two million ahead of Justin Bieber.

Last year – in time for the singer's latest album release and prior to the launch of new sites such as Google+ – social media expert Charu Dwivedi evaluated Lady Gaga's social media marketing campaign.

"Lady Gaga built one of the world's largest fan base by talking directly to her fans on social media on the release of her new single 'Edge of Glory'," she wrote for social media agency Mindjumpers (June 3 2011).

"She made a film which celebrates her special and unmediated relationship with her fans, the Little Monsters."

Ms Dwivedi noted that within hours of the album's title track being released, fans had already uploaded videos onto YouTube – an act that was encouraged by Lady Gaga and eventually turned into a film that was broadcasted during the singer's performance on comedy show
Saturday Night Live just nine days later.
