There is no doubt that the internet and particularly social media have helped reshape the recruitment landscape over recent years – and Facebook is the latest site to make its mark in the area.
Going into direct competition with LinkedIn, the site is offering users the chance to list their professional skills in the hope of catching the eye of companies searching for their next prospect.
All a user has to do is head to the 'about' section of their profile and take a look at the work and education section – that's where they'll find the opportunity to list all their professional skills.
Although the feature is only in its early days, it is possible that recruiters will eventually be able to search for people with the set of qualities they are looking for in new candidates.
With companies increasingly using social media marketing as a means of attracting the best talent, this could simply be the latest way of finding people who tick all the right boxes.
The release of this feature comes as recruitment agency Hays reveals just how important it is to get a social media page right when applying for a job.
It recommends that job seekers use social media as a means of showcasing themselves in the best light.
Every aspect of a page, including the profile picture, needs to be given careful consideration in order to catch the attention of recruiters and give the right impression.
The likes of LinkedIn make this much easier than it has been in the past, but with Facebook rolling out its latest development, other social networks may soon be competing for a slice of the action too.
