Making your mark on social media

With so many companies adopting social media marketing strategies, it can be hard to make your advertisements and online profiles stand out from the rest.

This is why it could be a good idea to work with trained professionals who know how to help you get the most out of your Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter campaigns.

There are businesses that specialise in giving your company the information and practical support it needs to create an effective, interactive and profitable online community.

While some believe that generating interest is as simple as setting up a Facebook page, the social media experts understand that it takes a lot more to get noticed.

And then there is the question of search engine optimisation (SEO) – with such an abundance of searchable pages, ranking your site on Google can sometimes be a challenge.

However, SEO specialists have a few tricks up their sleeves, such as custom news strategies and corporate blogging – these can really build the popularity of your website as well as provide fresh, original content to your readers.

Many enterprises are also looking to invest in online advertising. A United States media advising company, BIA Kelsey, has predicted that revenues from paid promotions on social networks could reach US$9.8 billion by 2016 – that is over triple 2011's total of US$3.1 billion.

"Social advertising's local business penetration will steadily increase as SMBs' understanding of social media deepens, and as the networks continually improve the ease of onboarding and campaign management," analyst and program director of social local media at BIA Kelsey Jed Williams said on May 15.

"Facebook opening its Ads API to more partners, including those that work with SMBs, and Twitter's self-serve platform will help to democratise social ads, which will ultimately lead to more growth," he added.
