Tapping into Social Media Week, September 24-28

Social Media Week (SMW) is an event that takes place all around the world, exploring the ways in which this medium has an impact on cultural, social and economic factors.

The event is already in full swing with participants from a variety of locations including Berlin, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Vancouver, Shanghai and Seoul.

The mission of the biannual conference is to "help people and organizations connect through collaboration, learning and the sharing of ideas and information".

Ellen McGirt, senior writer of business media brand Fast Company commented: "Social Media Week does not disappoint. It is a real-world manifestation of some of the best that new technology has to offer – ideas, strategies and insights shared by the people who are shaping the future."

You can expect discussions on topics such as social media marketing, corporate blogging, Facebook campaigns and custom news, with the sharing of ideas focusing on three core areas: content, collaboration and conversation.

Fresh content is regularly posted on the SMW Facebook and Twitter pages, revealing that even celebrities attended events, comma with musicians Janelle Monae and Big Boi providing entertainment.

Other stars such as Dylan McDermott, Omar Epps, Larry King and Nick Cannon are also in on the buzz that SMW is creating.   

Organisers of SMW said that it is their belief that a society which is more connected will lead to a "more enlightened, prosperous and sustainable world".

An infographic of February's SMW facts and figures are featured on the website measuring the global participation in the event.

Several aspects of the event are measured including the number of physical participants, number of those who connected to the event online, social impressions the week made, attendee job title and industry.
