Teleportation, rugby and steak sandwiches: A Q&A with Laura Gomes
Hailing from South Africa, Laura is Castleford’s hard-working content marketing manager. With nearly 12 months at Castleford under her belt, she’s a calm organiser, a firm favourite with clients and a never-ending source of office positivity.
We caught up with Laura to find out more about her, and what it’s like moving from one proud rugby nation to another.
NZ has been your home for nearly three years, what do you like about living here?
Time has really flown! It’s such a beautiful country and there’s an endless list of places to visit and things to do. Living here has made me more adventurous with outdoor activities and with food – I generally only like pizza, pasta or burgers (editor’s note: sounds good to me!) but have now taken to Bao.
…but who are you supporting at scrum time?
I like the All Blacks and I support them against any other team. However, when they’re head-to-head with the Springboks I’m 1oo per cent behind the Green and Gold!
What do you like most about heading up Castleford’s team of digital campaign managers?
They’re a great team who are all looking to develop and learn new things. Content marketing never stands still for long, and they’re always taking time to upskill themselves and improve the way we do things for our clients.
Give me an interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?
I’m a tomboy at heart and used to go to the shooting range and race track regularly with my dad when I was a kid. I have a picture of me shooting a rifle when I was about 11 years old as proof!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Definitely teleportation! Imagine being able to travel all over the world without spending hours on a plane, or having to pay for the ticket for that matter. I’d use this to go back to South Africa to spend some time with my family and friends and tuck into a toasted steak special … missing the Auckland traffic to and from work would also be handy.
