China has become notorious for its resistance to mainstream social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

But Facebook isn't taking no for an answer, with reports that the international social media giant is eyeing up an office in Beijing.

China has blocked Facebook since 2009, but many of the site's top executives have recently made trips to China to try and reach an agreement. COO Sheryl Sandberg met with the government agency that oversees the internet late last year.

If Facebook does open a Beijing office, it could be years before they successfully reach an agreement with the Chinese government due to the strict censorship policies in place.

If successful, this would definitely be worth Facebook's time. With over one billion people and a growing middle class, there is huge advertising potential in China.
