Smartphones and tablets have changed the way we go about our day-to-day lives, from how we work and communicate to how we shop and find someone to marry.
In Australia, 76 per cent of us now have a smartphone, and a further 45 per cent of us are using a tablet, according to a recent report by Microsoft.
But why are we so addicted to these devices?
Three-quarters of us believe mobile technology has made our lives easier, while two-thirds of us use productivity apps to get things done throughout the day, according to the study.
As a result, the way we work has changed, with 53 per cent of Australians using these devices at work, whether it’s actually working or checking in on social media accounts or watching videos.
The study also revealed that 44 per cent of us are doing work outside of regular office hours and our smartphones are to blame.
But while we might be happy to check emails in bed or on the couch, we do the draw the line somewhere. More than three quarters (79 per cent) of us said it’s rude to check your phone when out with friends.
